DTE Teens Perform This Friday

Check out details on PxP.

Tomorrow: Andrew Butler @ ANT Fest

Andrew Butler is a mulit-talented, wonderful artist who has taught in DTE’s in-school programs, is currently (2nd session today!) doing the In Transition Theater Workshop with local young people, and performed for some friends of DTE back in August at the Clover Club.

Tomorrow night, check out his one-man show (excerpts of which were performed at the Clover Club), Rags Parkland, at Ars Nova’s Ant Fest 2010.

Harvest Fest This Saturday

If you’re a young person, age 15-21, we hope you’ll be at the first session of the In Transition Workshop this Saturday (info/applications available here).

Everyone else, though, check out the Harvest Fest down on the Added Value farm!  10am – 5pm, rain or shine.  The day will include:

  • [their] “pick your own” pumpkin patch — carve them right here or bring them home.
  • Kids activities including live animals to pet, face painting, balloon hats, and a scavenger hunt.
  • Live music and performances by Bomba Yo! The City Billies, Professor Louis, The Broken Arrowz, Rebel Diaz and more.
  • Great Food provided by The Good Fork, iCi, Rice, Kevin’s and the Lobster Pound.
  • A Farmers Market featuring locally grown produce and hand made products.
  • Cooking demonstrations with local seasonal food.

Monday Morning Pic

From Saturday’s performance of Angels & Accordions at Green-Wood Cemetery, the last of seven years of annual productions (via the Flickr photostream of EnnuiPoet):

More to come throughout the day.

Monday (almost) Morning Pic

Not a picture from anything that happened this week- instead, in honor of school being (really) back in session today, here’s an image from last year’s TheatreWorks group at South Brooklyn Community High School here in Red Hook.

Maurice, Kaitlin, Ricky, Sammy, & B acting like weirdos

Hope all our high school students around the BK are enjoying your first (second) day of classes.

Have a great year, guys, and remember- you will have more to say about what happens to you this year than anybody else.  Embrace that power and make something great happen this year.

Monday Morning Picture: Them’s Good Veggies

From a random Flickr stream (apparently Shelly Bernstein’s) with the title “Red Hook CSA Half Share Week 10:”

Looks like the folks over at Added Value are doing an awesome job (as expected)- that haul is much better than what I remember getting the one summer I did a (non-Red Hook) CSA.

I think it’s too late to sign up for the CSA at this point, but the Farmer’s Market is still open on weekends.

Another Look @ Tomorrow’s Featured Artist

Tomorrow night: Andrew Butler @ The Clover Club

Right now:  Andrew & the rest of the Political Subversities cast doing their “MTA” song.

Wednesday Night @ The Clover Club

The Clover Club, in Carroll Gardens, is famous for their kinda-fancy, slightly-retro libations done at a reasonable cost.  (Check out their menu online, in which they break drinks, alone, up into categories including “swizzles,” “juleps & smashes,” and “sours and daisies,” to name just a few.

Combine that artisinal flair for booze with a hilarious up-and-coming artist and you have DTE’s August Featured Artist Event, taking place next Wednesday (the 18th) from 6pm-8pm, with Andrew Butler.

Above is a video from Andrew’s sketch comedy group, Tenured Faculty.  On Wednesday, he’ll be performing original songs like these. (Check out Amsterdoodle, which may or may not include a line where he rhymes with the word/Geographic entity, Leidseplein)
